Frequently Asked Questions
Although you can place the sensor anywhere, some places are better than others. In general placing it next to your thermostat is the best location. Below are the general guidelines when looking for the right location for you:
Avoid the exterior walls of your home.
Avoid bathrooms and kitchens.
Place the sensor between 4 and 5 feet from the ground.
Avoid locations that are in direct sunlight.
Avoid placing the sensor above where people sit or sleep (to the side is fine).
Don't place the sensor above heaters or devices that produce heat (e.g. TV, stereo)
You can also use the optional airQ Sense stand. This allows you to place the sensor on a piece of furniture (e.g. bedside table), and to move the sensor around until you find a location that suits you.
Yes! Every airQ device has been designed for maximum flexibility and can be powered by 24V AC power (what your thermostat and HVAC system use), as well as 6V to 32V DC (most standard plug packs).
Each sensor draws only 1.2W (0.05A at 24V), so won't overload your thermostat power, even if you have a Nest or any other thermostat sharing power.
Each home is unique and therefore installation times will vary. As a general rule of thumb the number of bedrooms and options dictates the duration. Below is the typical installation durations:
Installation type | Typical install duration |
Condo / studio | 4 hours |
1-2 Bedroom home | 8 hours |
3-4 Bedroom home | 10 hours |
5+ Bedroom home | 2 days |
Cooling Kit add-on | +2 hours |
